With the summer season upon us, now is a great time to fire up the grill! Here are some great tips for food safety and nutrition this summer.
Clean your grill. Make sure your grill is clean and safe to use. It can be cleaned with hot, soapy water to remove the debris or residue after each use.
Ensure proper food safety. Keep raw meats separate from cooked meat to avoid cross-contamination. Wash your cutting boards between use and always wash your hands.
Cook lean meats. Choose lean cuts of meat, pork, poultry, or seafood. Plant based protein such as bean or tofu burgers are also a great lean alternative.
Add nutrients. Add flavor and nutrients with vegetables such as peppers and onions. Use olive oil and season your veggies with herbs or spices, wrap in foil, and grill until veggies are tender.
Store leftovers in the refrigerator. Food should not sit out longer than two hours. When away from a refrigerator, store cooked items in a cooler or on ice.
