Create positive, healthful habits for you and your children. Studies show that some school-aged children are not eating enough of the recommended amounts of certain food groups or engaging in the physical activity they need to stay healthy.

Parents play a critical role in developing children's nutritious habits. To ensure you are making a positive impact, use these following tips:

  • Allow your children to help decide what meals to make during the week. Have them help you shop for fresh produce, and introduce new foods each week.

  • Set good examples by eating fresh fruits, vegetables, lean protein, whole grains and drink water. Have fresh fruit or vegetables available for snacking.

  • A great way to spend time together is to include physical fitness into your daily activity/routine. Encourage a walk after dinner or go for a family bike ride.

  • Talk to your children about the foods they enjoy eating and introduce new foods from a variety of cultures.
